Producer Elisar Cabrera

Elisar Cabrera has been working in the film business since the age of seventeen when on a trip to Los Angeles he worked as a production assistant on the set of the low budget feature film, Cool Blue, a love story starring Woody Harrelson in his feature debut. After working as a production assistant on several more feature films (for producers such as Cassian Elwes and Brad Wyman) and learning more about the filmmaking process on the way, Elisar was soon working as a Producer’s Assistant on two feature films, the fantasy thriller Soulmates and the romantic drama Love Is Like That under veteran indie producer Matt Devlen.
Returning to London, Elisar teamed with Vista Street Entertainment, a production and distribution company based in Los Angeles who for several years had been making action and horror films for the US and Far East home video market.
The product of Elisar’s collaboration with Vista Street was Demonsoul, a vampire thriller and the first film that Vista Street Entertainment has chosen to involve itself in outside of the United States. The film was premiered at the Edinburgh Film Festival’s New British Expo and has since played at the Manchester Festival of Fantastic Films, The Sitges International Festival of Fantasy Films and at the Raindance Film Festival.
In 1995 Elisar went on to follow Demonsoul with Virtual Terror, an anthology of three tales of terror told by Balthasar, the internet’s first mutant child. Working as producer Elisar found four young British directors each of whom directed a story segment within the film.
Between 1995 and 1997 Elisar was the Head of Development & Acquisitions at the London based film & TV sales company High Point & The Film Company Group where he instigated company acquisitions of programs such as UK cable operator Live TV’s daily soap opera Canary Wharf.
Witchcraft X: Mistress Of The Craft was released in the United States on home video in May 1999. Written and directed by Elisar and starring reigning British scream queen Eileen Daly Witchcraft X is a fantasy horror melding Dr Strange and The X-Files.
In 2000 Elisar directed his first television series, Love Goddesses of Hollywood. The series was made for Playboy and features a series of interviews with some of LA’s most well known B-movie actresses such as Julie Strain, Lisa Boyle, Monique Parent, Nikki Fritz, amongst others. His association with Playboy continued into other projects for them.
Between 1999 and 2004, Elisar co-ran a professional wrestling company, Frontier Wrestling Alliance. During this time, Elisar also produced and directed Frontier Wrestling, a 30 x half hour weekly wrestling series for local Portsmouth TV.
From the FWA, Elisar was then writer and Associate Producer on Revival:
The Search for the King of England. Revival marked the return of British Wrestling to a national stage was a two hour special event for Flextech’s Bravo Channel.
Elisar for over 17 years worked for London based High Point Media Group, an international film and TV sales, finance and distribution company. He has represented the company and selling their feature films, TV dramas, documentaries and series at the Cannes Film Festival, AFM, Berlin Film Festival, London UK Film Focus and Toronto Film Festival amongst other film festivals and markets.
Elisar’s experience in the international sales and marketing area has lead him to teaching new producers about the subject at Raindance, the London Film Festival and the National Film and Television School.
Elisar was a member of the New Producers Alliance from its first year and sat on the Executive Committee between 1999-2001. The NPA was an industry body that represents the interests of 1000 independent producers, writers and directors in the United Kingdom.
He has since sat on the Project Steering Group that lead to the formalisation of the Film Export UK, the trade body representing UK feature film sales companies and currently sits on the FEUK board of directors (since 2009) where he has been actively representing the UK film sales industry lobbying industry bodies such as the BFI and the UK governement. As part of his duties at FEUK Elisar helped organise the UK Film Export Centre at the European Film Market at the Berlin International Film Festival working closely with the BFI.
Elisar was one of the hosts of WYTV’s Those Video Guys, a weekly web series on YouTube reviewing the latest web videos released online. A second live show spun off from this which is the world’s first live Doctor Who fan talk show.
In 2012 Elisar returned to drama production, producing three short films Sweetheart (which has its world premiere at the Raindance Film Festival), Beryl (for 50 Kisses) and A Very European Christmas (released December 2012 online). Beryl went on to win the Audience Award at the 50 Kisses Premiere. 50 Kisses (including Beryl) subsequently entered the Guinness Book of Records in 2014 for most screenwriters in a movie.
3some was Elisar’s first foray into scripted web series. The 6 episode series went on to be nominated for Best Ensemble Cast at the International Academy of Web TV Awards and won Best Writing and Best Lead Actor at the Indie Series Awards 2014. A second series is in development.
As a former film sales agent, Elisar is also in demand as an independent feature film producer, producing two features in 2013, psychological thriller Deadly Virtues and horror comedy Ibiza Undead starring Downton Abbey’s Cara Theobold and Inbetweeners star Emily Atack.
In 2013 Elisar founded the Raindance Web Fest, the first web series film festival in the UK. He also curates the web series section of MCM London Comic Con which in 2014 is on course to host 95,000 fans. Film aside, Elisar was a guest presenter on TalkSPORT radio’s now ended Saturday evening wrestling phone in show, has been a reviewer for The Sci Fi Channel Europe’s SF Scene magazine show, featured as a b-movie expert for FilmFour’s 24fps, was one of the subjects of a documentary about wrestling on Channel 4’s The Other Side, and was the 1997 and 2000 Cartier ‘Oh Hell’ Champion (an annual charity card game tournament sponsored by the jewellers Cartier).
