Isabella (Gianna Gomez)

Gianna is a young actress is a young actress from Los Angeles.  Appearing in such shows as Camp, Jack and Jill, and Good Luck Charlie. Gianna began acting at the age of 4 and her work in Catching Fireflies is remarkable, she won Best Leading Actress as the International Filmmaker Festival in London, competing with other actresses three times her age and taking home the trophy.

Sophia (Carlotta Elektra Bosch)

Carlotta was born in in Barcelona  to a Castilian mother and a Catalan father.  Carlotta fearlessly moved to New York to follow her dream: to pursue an education and career in acting.Carlotta’s work recently took her to Los Angeles, where she is now established.  She is constantly travelng between the US and Europe, while performing in numerous productions in both English and Spanish.

Writer/Director: Lee Whittaker

Lee Whittaker’s fondness for film began at a young age.  He began his career on the George Lucas Live show in Tokyo and moved to LA, where he worked on some of Hollywood’s biggest blockbusters.  With over 20 years as a stunt man and a decade’s experience as a Second-Unit Director and a Stunt Co-ordinator, Whittaker makes his directorial debut with his film Catching Fireflies.  As both the writer and director of this film about homelessness, Lee says “This is a subject matter that is close to my heart and to tell this story, spread the message of awareness, we can be all the difference”.

                

9 year old Latina girl, Isabella strives to survive skid-row with her heroine addict mother Sofia in a cardboard house in downtown Los Angeles. Her whimsical imagination proves a solid companion while dealing with her mothers addiction. Her mother asleep in a tent she meets Aurora and realizes how lonely homeless people are. Hearing of Fireflies again she offers a hug. A local cook teaches her, “If you catch a firefly in the night sky, then your wishes come true.” Awakened, she stumbles into a gang argument. Her dancing companion provides his magnum opus as a gun battle ensues and Fireflies light up the night sky. Isabella runs through to catch her wish of hope and save her mother.
