CAST

Azwile Chamane

Azwile Chamane was born in Durban and lives in Johannesburg. She is in Grade 6 at Pentarosa Primary. She has done a number of print and television advertisements. Vaya is her debut feature film.

 

Warren Masemola

Warren Masemola is an award -winning South African Film and Television actor, best known for his roles in the drama series ‘Intersexions’ and popular movies like ‘iNumber Number’ and ‘Hard to Get’. Most recently he featured in Gavin Hood’s international production, ‘Eye in the Sky.’

Warren was born, bred and matriculated in Pretoria. He studied drama at the Market Theatre Laboratory and graduated in 2004. Since graduating, he has also performed on stages both locally and internationally. He has also acted in local sitcoms like ‘Single Guys’ and ‘Saints and Sinners’. Currently he is shooting two series,’90 Plein Street and ‘Bone of my Bones’. He plays the gangster Xolani in Vaya.

 

Mncedisi Shabangu

Mncedisi Shabangu is an award-winning South African theatre actor and director.He has played lead roles in many theatrical productions including ‘Sizwe Banzi is Dead’, ‘Woza Altert’, ‘Woyzeck’ and ‘The Suitcase’. He has also played supporting roles in international co-productions for television which include ‘Book of Negroes’ (Canada/CBC) and ‘Die vloer up’ (Dutch TV). He has won numerous awards for theatre both as an actor and director, which include the Standard Bank Young Artist Award in 2003. Mncedisi has also worked as a physical theatre teacher at the Market Theatre Laboratory for the last 11 years. He has also been the Associate Artistic Director for the Market Theatre and Artistic director for the Windybrow theatre. Mncedisi plays Madoda in Vaya, his latest feature film directed by Akin Omotoso.

 

Sibusiso Msimang

Sibusiso is a 29-year-old Durban-based actor. Sibusiso completed his Journalism diploma at Damelin Westridge College in 2009. He is currently completing his Bachelor of Social Sciences degree and is majoring in Media and Cultural studies and Marketing. He began acting when he worked on student productions. Vaya is his debut feature film, where he plays the lead role of Nkulu.

 

Sihle Xaba

Sihle Xaba is a popular South African film and television actor. He was born in Durban where he still lives and works as a lifeguard on the Durban beach.
He is best known for his lead role in the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) Channel 1 Drama Series, ‘Bay of Plenty’. He also played the lead role in the feature film ‘Otelo Burning’ for which he won Best Promising Actor in the African Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) in Nigeria. His other roles include a supporting role in the feature film ‘Ayanda’ and in ‘Terrence’ a short film.

He plays the lead role of Nhlanhla in Vaya, Akin Omotoso’s latest film.

 

Zimkhitha Nyoka

Zimkhitha Nyoka is a South African actress born in a rural village in the Eastern Cape called Qamata. Zimkhitha made her television debut in the South African Broadcasting Television (SABC) Channel 1 hit youth drama ‘Mutual Friends’ in 2014. She has appeared in a few South African television series including ‘Gold Diggers’. She comes from a family of artists, musicians,painters and storytellers. After matriculating from the Lady Grey Arts Academy, she enrolled at the University of Johannesburg for a career in biochemistry/ botany. But she put her studies on hold after she auditioned for the university drama company. She then worked with them as a trainee director and theatre maker. Vaya, directed by Akin Omotoso, is her debut feature film.
